{Asian elephants have been domesticated in southern Asia for centuries. Male Asian elephants have long tusks, while females' tusks stay very short. Look for the small ears that are shaped like the country of India. African elephants have very large ears shaped like the continent of Africa. Why Are Elephants Endangered?
1. Habitat destruction - as human populations increase, humans take land necessary for the elephant's survival.
2. Poaching (killing) for ivory - for each piece of ivory you see or buy, an elephant was killed.
