Kemal atatürk was born in salonika,in 1881.his father died
when he was only seven,and the family was left almost penniless.mustafa did well in school,and his teacher gave him
a second name ,kemal , meaning''perfection''mustafa went to the army academy when he was 12 and was commissioned an officer in the army at 21.While he was still a young officer,he formed a secret committee to fight goverment corruption.
Even before world war 1,the ottoman empire was breaking up.austria seized parts of the balkans.bulgaria declared its independence. italy captured what is now libyaduring the world war 1,Turkey joined the germans.at the end of the war the empire was stripped of its territories,and the allieswere making plans to come up turkey itself into independent states and occupied territories .but mustafa now a general in the turkish army, had to support of the turkish people.he drove back the allied forces. the sultan fled the country to save his life .he founded the republic of turkey and served as its presidentfrom 1923 until his death.later he was called gazi mustafa kemaal pasa . the turkish grand national assembly gave him the surname attatürk, which means ''father türk'' or 'father of turks'' in 1933.
